At Lil Devil Golf Course, our nine-hole executive course, a single mowing height is used across all maintained turf areas as part of a more sustainable approach to course management.
Maintaining a consistent height of cut simplifies operations, allowing larger areas to be mown more efficiently with fewer machinery adjustments. This reduces fuel consumption, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and contributes to a smaller overall carbon footprint.
The approach also delivers agronomic benefits. Turf maintained at a slightly higher, uniform height develops deeper root systems, improving its ability to access water and nutrients. As a result, the grass is more resilient to drought stress and requires less supplemental irrigation.
Healthier, more robust turf is also better equipped to resist disease, insect damage, and weed invasion, reducing the need for fungicides, herbicides, and other chemical inputs. By combining operational efficiency with improved turf resilience, this initiative supports both environmental sustainability and high-quality playing conditions.
