The design and construction of several bunkers on the course required high maintenance inputs to present well. With some simple changes to the bunker outline, maintenance inputs were relaxed without the presentation of the course being jeopardized, in fact, it was enhanced. From a programme of continual cutting to a programme of once a year maintenance, the benefits have included less fuel inputs, fewer man-hours, greater biodiversity, higher numbers of mining bees, increased course aesthetics and fewer chemical inputs required; in fact, no herbicides have been applied in the last 12 months.
