We saw a dramatic reduction in fertilizer use after implementing the Minimum Levels for Sustainable Nutrition (MLSN) soil test interpretation guidelines.
Upon initial soil testing across all course surfaces, it became apparent that the soil already contained ample amounts of most essential nutrients. This realization allowed the GM superintendent team to shift its focus, confirming that Nitrogen (N) was the primary nutrient needed to maintain the club's high-quality turf standards.
Since adopting the MLSN-based approach, we have significantly optimized nutrient applications, targeting only what the turfgrass truly needs and eliminating unnecessary inputs:
Potassium (K) reduction: Annual potassium application for the entire course has plummeted from 432 kg in 2022 to an 12 kg in 2024—a reduction of over 97%.
Phosphorus (P) elimination: Annual phosphorus application has been completely eliminated, decreasing from 211 kg in 2022 to 0 kg in 2024.
