Golfcourse ‘the Twentsche’ is known for its beautiful landscape. Located on a centuries-old estate, named Twickel, after the nearby castle still inhabited by the Duke and Duchess. The course features many traditional elements.
One much-appreciated feature is the herd of sheep, which is not only very decorative in the roughs but also very effective in maintaining bio-diversity in the heathlands. Once a year, the sheep have to be shorn, this is a technique that is increasingly rare in the Netherlands as the number of herds is decreasing. Sheep shearing at the Twentsche serves as practical training for aspiring herders, contributing to the preservation of this artisanal skill.
