Saltmarsh regeneration project prevents coastal erosion

The club started a pilot project to see if we could further prevent an area from coastal erosion by regenerating native saltmarsh. Some marsh had eroded away and, as a consequence, the tide comes in quicker through that clear run to eat away at the land on which our 10th fairway stands.

The plan was to take hand-sized plugs from the surrounding marsh and put them in the eroded area. Then biorolls made of coconut husk were used to form a protective barrier, allowing the marsh to take root and reform. We teamed up with the local school who allowed pupils to come down and get involved in every aspect of the project.
