Here at Dornoch, we are trying several initiatives to help keep our staff, membership and community engagement with ecology, increasing our awareness of it and our impact on it. The latest is Beekeeping!

We have two hives and trained two of our Greenstaff to look after them, all sponsored by one of our members. As part of the project, we have encouraged our Heather coverage on course through responsible rough management to aid as a food source and also seeded out areas with wildflowers for the same reason.

We recently started taking honey from the hives and this will be eventually used by our chefs as they create a wholesome feel to our clubhouse menu. Progress has been encouraging and enjoyable to see because we are only starting out really after the whole project was delayed at least a year by the Covid lockdown situation. There’s a nice aspect to the story as well and a more detailed account of it can be found here.
