In the autumn we constructed two new residences at Maesdu Golf Club. These Bug Hotels (or Hibernaculums) provide a safe and warm space for invertibrates, small mammals and other wildlife to shelter throughout the winter.
We have located the bug hotels in natural spots with undergrowth nearby to allow a corridor for the occupants to enter and exit by as well as providing a little more protection. We recycled old tee markers, pallets, some spare turf as well as dead wood and clay pipes to create the hotel.
We hope to keep adding these in the future to help the wildlife of Maesdu GC survive the harsh North Wales winters.
