Renovating playing corridors to reduce water demand

Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course

Portugal

The golf course has recently transitioned to be a fully Bermuda grass golf course with the Bermuda being used for the tees, fairways and greens. This has resulted in an estimated 20% saving (10,800 m3/ha vs 13 900m3/ha) in overall water demand compared to the other courses at Vilamoura. While these works were being carried out we took the opportunity to reconfigure and improve the irrigation sprinkler layout and revise the drainage to improve the water management of the overall site. By carrying this out at the same time we reduced the amount of time the turf is under stress and that the course has to be closed.
