Removing invasive species for local benefit

As part of our ongoing initiative to eliminate invasive trees and shrubs, we engaged local tree fellers during their off-peak times to remove and destroy the invasive lantana plants. These lantana hybrids are among the world's top ten worst weeds and rank fourth in South Africa.

Lantana is highly invasive and categorized as a transformer species, and it is also a leading cause of livestock poisoning in South Africa. Classified as a Category 1b invasive species, lantana must be removed and destroyed. In addition to addressing this environmental issue, our efforts have also created job opportunities for six staff members.
