Reducing usage of single-use plastics

Royal Wimbledon Golf Club

England

In 2022, Royal Wimbledon sold 3,502 single-use plastic bottles of soft drinks and 1,226 single-use plastic bottles of water at the Club. With growing awareness of single-use plastic bottles' environmental and health impacts, Royal Wimbledon has started its journey to provide sustainable alternatives for its members and guests.

The Club provides refillable water stations in the clubhouse and now only sells aluminium bottled water and cans as a takeaway option in the Halfway Hut. In addition to this, Royal Wimbledon has moved to a fully compostable material for its takeaway containers for food and hot drinks. Since the transition, the Club has now sold 3,147 cans of soft drinks and 963 cartons and aluminium bottles of water.

The Club will continue its efforts in the next year to limit other single-use plastics used in operation with the hopes of significantly reducing the number of single-use plastic bottles ending up in landfills or oceans, harming wildlife and ecosystems..
