Public tours for protected heritage trees

The Singapore Island Country Club - The New Course

Singapore

Singapore, also known as "the City in a Garden," has earned a reputation as one of the world's greenest cities. The continuous efforts to enhance Singapore's greenery are evident through various initiatives such as planting more trees and creating additional green spaces. However, it is equally important to recognise and preserve the mature trees, which have taken decades to grow gracefully and contribute to the beauty of our landscape and provide us with a sense of identity.

Keeping with SICC's commitment to sustainability, two trees ( the Common Pulai and Jelawai Jaha) at The New Course have been recognised as National Heritage Trees under the Heritage Tree Scheme. To qualify, the trees needed to have a girth of over five meters and/or possess botanical, social, historical, cultural, or aesthetic value. Taking part in the scheme not only safeguards our natural surroundings but also promotes appreciation through various initiatives, including the installation of interpretive signage and the establishment of a nomination scheme for the community. The Club will be organising public tours that will provide nature enthusiasts an opportunity to get closer to these remarkable trees.
