Protecting local honey bees

Golfclub Kleiburg

Netherlands

Near Hole 18, locally-based beekeeper Leendert van den Berg placed several hives. The bees eat their bellies full from the wildflower borders at Hole 10, the white clover on the dyke and the blackberry bushes around the golf course. Golfclub Kleiburg has regular contact with the beekeeper about the food situation. For example, the greenkeepers have been asked to not mow and prune all the borders and bushes at the same time in July and August and to seed reseda odorata mixture. The bees living on the golf course produce honey which can be purchased from the caddie master.
