Prioritising wetland management for protected species

La Finca Golf

Spain

Written by: Gonzalo Pedrera

There is an environmental master plan in place to improve environmental conditions at La Finca Golf. This has been produced by well-known environmentalists of the University of Alicante. The plan includes measures for better management of an environmentally rich wetland area (Marjal), that hosts designated protected and vulnerable species (Oxyura leucocephala, Ardeola ralloides Pelophylax perezi), and which complements a designated "priority area" for the reproduction, feed, concentration and dispersion of birds, which is located in an adjacent area to the south of the course. The aim is also to use the Marjal as an example of good wetland management, and for environmental education purposes in the region.
