Participating in the protection of coastal erosion

Lundin Golf Club

Scotland

Written by: Alistair McDonald

Following advice from Scottish National Heritage (SNH) the club installed £100,000 worth of coastal erosion sleepers along the southern coastal edge of the golf course. These sleepers encourage the deposition of windblown sand and enhance natural dune recovery, reduce trampling and protect existing marram vegetation.

These fences were installed in order to help reduce wind speed across the sand surface and better encourage foredune deposition. They also act as a modest barrier to wave attack, reducing the erosion potential of waves near the limit of uprush. The club work to maintain these defences frequently and have discussions with SNH.
