Olives have been cultivated on the island since ancient times and the team at Minthis is proud to cherish this tradition. The area around our 12th century monastery, ‘Stavros tis Minthis’, was historically covered by olive trees, carob trees, orchards and vineyards until much of it was destroyed by fire in the 1950s. Only a few of the olive trees survived so when the golf course was constructed in 1994 the vision was to restore the environment to its original beauty.
Olive trees from the area were replanted during the initial construction and we successfully added another 350 olive trees from all over Cyprus during 2009, some over 400 years old! After years of dedication and care by our greenkeeping team, the trees were full of ripe Cyprus olives in 2017. With expert guidance from our executive chef, our home-grown olive oil will soon be ready and served in the clubhouse restaurant.
