2025
We have created a new biotope, which is now a nature reserve. The renovation and ecological upgrading of our Steichelweiher was completed last year with the following goals:
- Habitat diversity thanks to a natural shoreline design and varying water depths.
- Emergence of typical vegetation types of riparian habitats, flowing waters, and still waters.
- New/enhanced habitat for amphibian species already found in the surrounding area (tree frog, common frog, common toad, edible frog, alpine newt, and thread-necked newt).
- New/enhanced habitat for dragonflies.
- Prevention of excessive algal growth despite nutrient richness.
We also included ecological goals for land areas:
- Large nectar supply for insects from spring to autumn.
- Nesting opportunities, food and nectar supply, and structural diversity through targeted planting of native tree and shrub species.
- Species-rich valley meadow (flower meadow) in the neighboring plot.
- New temporarily dry flowing water/wetland habitat at the excavated Streichelbach stream.
- Tall herbaceous border at the transition from the wet area to the Fromental meadow and, in some sections, in the lower meadow areas around the open stream.
- Graduated, ecologically valuable forest edge on the dam.
