The relocation of the main club car park at The Island Golf Club was carried out in 2016 and saw an ideal opportunity to create a desirable habitat in its former location.
In conjunction with the club's ecological plan, it was decided that a bare sand area would be formed in order to establish different types of links habitat. All former material: stones, lighting and old tarmac were removed and the ground was taken down to clean sand, the area was shaped so that it fitted well into the landscape.
Islands of marram slabs were installed to break up the area and reduce sand blow. After a period of time and natural regeneration, marram grasses have started to recolonise naturally and an increase in wildlife and pollinators has been witnessed.
