The hoopoe bird is extremely rare in Switzerland, with an estimated 10-170 breeding pairs mainly found in the southern Valais and Geneva regions. During the summer of 2023, there were four reported sightings of the hoopoe at Golfpark Zürichsee, confirmed by BirdLife Switzerland.
With our assistance, BirdLife Switzerland has installed five nesting boxes in appropriate locations around the golf course. The prospect of supporting this endangered species is highly promising.
