Nature conservation area preserves peat layers

Golf Gonten AG

Switzerland

This nature conservation area was created through a land exchange with a local farmer, who received agricultural land in return. The goal was to restore the moorland’s natural ability to retain water. Through careful ecological work, the area was reshaped to keep moisture locked in, ensuring the peat layers stay permanently soaked.

This prevents the peat from drying out and decomposing—cutting carbon emissions and protecting a vital ecosystem. The restored wetland has also become a rich habitat, boosting local biodiversity and strengthening the area’s ecological value.
