Almost all excess water on Vesterby Golf Course runs down into a long ditch which then passes into a large, shallow, and overgrown pond, a so-called nitrogen trap.
The pond catches up most of the remains from the fertilizers, which minimises any reaching a smaller lake adjacent to the golf course. This is a good way to reduce the leakage of nutrients to nearby lakes and watercourses.
