The Natterjack Toad is a protected species, particularly on the coastline bordering the Links. We have been working closely with Cheshire Wildlife to construct these ponds, fencing is removed during winter months when the toads retreat to the dunes, then reed beds are cleared out and shallow pools are formed by foot traffic and dogs which are ideal for spawning grounds in the Spring.

The pools are then re-fenced after the toads return in order to protect them. At the last count there were 33 spawn strings so we are hopeful for some new life soon.
