Monitoring moths shows positive practices

Moths are a valuable indicator of biodiversity and air quality – they tell us a great deal about the quality of our environment.

They are very sensitive to the effects of land management practices as well as air pollution and climate change so provide us with a useful indication of good golf course maintenance practices.

UK-wide moth populations are in decline, so Fife Golf Trust has been proud to work alongside an expert in this field since 2018 to record and map moth species. The outcomes are very positive with more than 295 species recorded! We aim to continue and expand this work to show the careful management of our golf courses and their habitats.
