红旗谷独角兽场地由于有北方常见剪股颖入侵及缺水问题，结合GEO环保理念从整个球场可打性和维护的角度对球场进行重新取草设计和改造。具体是将球道中球不常落点的非击打区草坪拿掉，用来填补球道击打区的问题草坪，在突出了红旗谷球场挑战性的特点同时大大降低了球道维护中用水、肥料、剪草等维护成本。 红旗谷咨询卢军设计师后，经卢设计师现场勘查及规划后，独角兽场地整体可减少草坪面积：52800㎡，减少养护面积：48264㎡，根据红旗谷阶段性需要2021年共取草约1.2万㎡，本次取草更换作业于2021年4月20日开始，工期约14天（因红旗谷山地地形影响），取草及铺设费用25万元（重新买草皮及铺设费用约40万元），首先对独角兽球场现有草坪进行认真梳理，将不具备打球功能区域的草坪切下来，用于球道更换剪股颖。既省去购买草坪的费用、保证草坪的品种和质量。同时，还减少了更换草坪的运输工作量。不仅如此，去掉的一万多平米草坪，每年减少管理费用约10万元，未用完可用草坪可先持续养护供日后更换草坪使用。带来可观的长期效益，符合可持续发展的理念。 根据球道的长度、障碍设置和击球战略，确定那些区域的草坪没有打球用途。确保草坪切除后，各种差点的球员打球难度、趣味性和挑战性不受影响，不影响球员的体验感。当草坪切除后，还要根据球场的整体景观需要，对草坪的轮廓线进行现场调整，确保曲线优美、管理方便。对切除草坪的区域，选用最低管理成本的草本植物进行种植覆盖，保持球场整体色彩的统一性。 改造同时拆除改造前区域喷头217个，每年可节省约3万立方水资源。该区域放弃养护，自然生长杂草，使得独角兽球场更具兽性，增加打球乐趣，同时兼顾了养护成本，一举多得。

Due to the invasion of shearwaters and water shortage problems in the north, the Red Flag Valley Unicorn course was redesigned from the perspective of playability and maintenance by combining the GEO environmental concept. Specifically, the turf from the area of the fairway where the ball does not usually land was removed and used to fill the problematic grass in the striking zone of the fairway, highlighting the challenging features of the Red Flag Valley course while greatly reducing the maintenance costs of water, fertilizer and grass cutting.
This action reduced the lawn area by 52,800 square meters and reduced the maintenance area by 48,264 square meters. The cost of taking grass and laying is $40,000 (the cost of buying turf again and laying is about $63,000). At the same time, it also reduced the workload of transporting the replacement lawn. In addition, the more than 10,000 square meters of lawn removed reduces management costs by approximately $100,000 per year, and the unused available lawn can be continuously maintained for future lawn replacement. This brings considerable long-term benefits and is in line with the concept of sustainable development.
It was important during the renovation to make sure that the difficulty, fun and challenge of play for players of all handicaps was not compromised after the grass is removed and does not affect the player experience. For the area where the turf was removed, herbaceous plants with the lowest management cost were selected for planting and covering to maintain the overall colour uniformity of the course. The renovation also removed 217 sprinkler heads in the area before the renovation, saving about 30,000 cubic meters of water each year. The area abandoned maintenance, natural growth of weeds, making the unicorn course more beastly, increase the fun of playing, while taking into account the maintenance costs, a multi-benefit.
