It has been really rewarding to see how bees have been thriving on our site of late. We have been able to steadily increase the amount of hives we have and how have three separate hive locations scattered throughout the course. Recently, our wonderful beekeepers asked if we'd be interested in building a 'Living Roof' on top of the container that they use to store apiculture equipment and where honey is extracted. Together we developed a plan, they framed and constructed the garden for the roof of the container in which flowers were planted that need almost no maintenance and very little water (Gazanias and Livingstone Daisies). We have also added a few hives to that and we have been thrilled to see how successful it has been. The big benefit is that the temperature inside the container is now consistently cool and the new hives above are absolutely thriving. Our members and guests have really enjoy seeing this (not just an ugly container) and are buying the honey produced on site!
