In keeping with the desire to become more and more sustainable, we now employ outside agents to take care of pruning and tuning of nature areas: a flock of sheep to be specific. The sheep are herded from one area to the other, and when at work they are free to roam a designated area to feed on whatever they like. The net result is that the diversity of vegetation is increasing and that “bad” vegetation is diminished as it seems to be on the favourite menu of our sheep. Members are excited that the sheep are on the course and as a result are very eager to make sure that the sheep are safe and healthy. Greenkeeping staff are contacted immediately when a member thinks something is wrong, but so far fortunately this has always been a false alarm. An additional benefit of using sheep is that we now have less grass and weed to dispose of, which means less pollution from vehicles having to collect and transport green waste which we are not allowed to process locally.
