Firstly, we installed LED lighting throughout the clubhouse which has seen a positive reduction in our annual electricity usage. Automatic on/off sensors in the locker/changing areas and wash rooms made complete sense particularly with areas that have sporadic use throughout the day.
We also decided to replace the relatively old oil-fired boiler. After exploring the various options, taking into account its environmental friendliness, we chose a new Biomass boiler. This provides heating and hot water to the clubhouse, club shop and changing rooms. The burning of wood pellets emits significantly less CO2 compared to an oil-fired boiler and the club benefits from the reduced costs of this alternative type of heating.
