The Twentsche Golf course is located on an old estate with traditional woods and meadows and has recently again benefitted from an active group of volunteers, known as ‘the Handymen’. Once a week, they receive a list of small jobs around clubhouse from the secretariat, and are able to fix most of the jobs in little or no time - saving the club lots of money whilst enjoying the camaraderie. Recently, a nearby sponsor offered the club four course huts to provide our golfers with shelter from rain and lightning. These huts were delivered pre-fab and are all made from wood, including wooden pegs. Roof tiles were found stored from the old clubhouse but still in a good enough shape to reuse. The huts are entirely built from wood on location, ensuring the lowest possible ecological footprint. The Handymen, in the meantime, enjoyed the assembling work: “It felt like Lego for big men”.
