Irrigation through innovative nature resource use

Lincoln Golf Club was recently highlighted in Golf Course Architect magazine for "doing it the right way" in terms of completing a course irrigation system project that involved sourcing water in a natural way. The extreme weather of 2018 meant the club had to invest in a full-course irrigation system. It was found that an underground watercourse flowed beneath the course, so the club was able to tap into this and divert some of the flow to an irrigation reservoir that linked to the local river, the River Trent, enabling the club to save resources and operate in a sustainable manner.

The club worked with irrigation contractor Arden Lea and Hunter Industries on the project. By using the G885D decoder in-head rotors in a single row, controlled by a Pilot-CCS software system, the club was able to achieve coverage and uniformity at a significantly more affordable cost. The exact location of each sprinkler head was designed around the course architect's plan with Ken Moodie to ensure the future-proofing of the system. The club is currently 9 holes into this plan, which you can learn more about here.
