In January 2025, we organised A First Green event to inspire the next generation of greenkeepers by showcasing the range of skills required across science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
The event gave pupils an interactive experience of the life of a greenkeeper. Five stations were set up around the course, and in two visits, a local primary school brought 96 students to the club. In groups, the students visited each station, where they were greeted by greenkeeping staff who talked to them about their stations: Cool Machines, Data Analytics, Soils, Wildlife and Habitat Management, and Golf Activities.
The children asked lots of questions, and even had the opportunity to hit a few balls!
