Increase in native planting and communication with members

The Wisley

England

There is a desire to improve the biodiversity value of the site through more directed management of ‘out-of-play’ areas and an increase in native planting, gradually phasing out some of the exotic species throughout the site. Members and visitors to The Wisley expect a manicured landscape, but it is hoped that through the implementation of a Landscape Ecological Management Plan (LEMP) and better communication of managing for both biodiversity and golf, that the changes proposed and phased in over the next five years will be understood and welcomed by all.

This Landscape Ecological Management Plan addresses gorse management, ‘fringing’ rough creation and management, heather restoration, and woodland management. The LEMP also provides details on hedgerow creation and management, and wildflower grassland management.
