The purpose of this project is to create a healthier ecosystem in the irrigation supply lake. Historically, this lake had severe algae blooms which were negatively impacting our irrigation pumping system. Once the lake was fully drained, we discovered a large amount of silt and organic matter deposits which were increasing methane and nutrient levels in the water which in turn, creates a perfect environment for the algae to thrive. The silt and organic matter were removed using hand labour in order to protect the geotextile liner. Fish will be introduced into the lake in spring 2020.
