2025
One of the biggest focuses at TPC Deere Run is the Community. We have involved the community by hosting a First Green event. Over the last two years, we have hosted events in coordination with the third-grade class at Hamilton Elementary School. We have put a plan in place to host at least one event a year. This lets us take the time to teach the youth what working on a golf course looks like and the science behind it. For our events, we put together four stations:
At the Golf Course Equipment station, kids explore seven pieces of equipment, with our Equipment Manager demonstrating adjustments and reel setups. They can ask questions and interact with the tools.
At the Cool Tools on Greens station, we show how to change pin locations and manage moisture using TDRs. The kids even get to putt on the green.
In the Golf Course Math station, students measure shapes on the course and calculate square footage, bringing classroom math to life.
At the Soil Science station, we demonstrate how water moves through clay and sand. Kids mix their own soils and observe how water reacts.
