Hidden gems sand scrapes on the New Course

Hidden away between the New and the Old Course sit a wildlife haven. Our sand scrapes are seasonal wet areas in winter attracting Mallard and mammals to drink and in summer are dry, bare and full of bumble bees, mining bees, birds and hares. The bare sand provides a mobile and transient surface that can be used to catch food, dig into, harvest for nest material, and dust bathe in.

These features are well away from golf and are little disturbed which is no common thing these days. If only these and all the other little gems on our courses could be easily seen, we think people would be amazed at how rich and diverse the habitats, wildlife and management is on our courses. Well done and great work from our greenkeepers.
