Heather regeneration by removing degenerate gorse

Royal Porthcawl

Wales

Written by: Rowan Rumball

The biggest project at Royal Porthcawl has been the large-scale removal of degenerate gorse in order to reinstate open sandy areas and encourage coastal heather regeneration. This project has been very successful with large areas being returned to an early stage of succession where they will be allowed to naturally recolonise and grow into healthy coastal grasslands.
