Following Macmillan methodology, compost teas have been used extensively over the past three seasons and the benefits of a healthy soil are now being realised with thatch breaking down naturally, reducing the need for aggressive thatch removal by mechanical means and reducing the amount of sand applied to the playing surfaces.
Disease instance and severity has reduced significantly resulting in no fungicides being used on the course in the last three years. Through the use of fungal-dominated teas the root-zones are becoming more dominant in fungi which is providing a more suitable home for perennial species of turf. Fescue is now beginning to colonise the greens and helping us transition from an annual dominated sward to a more perennial one.
