A key objective of the renovation work was to restore the greens to their original dimensions. Over the years, management practices had caused the greens to shrink—by as much as eight feet in some areas! This reduction limited the number of available pin positions and intensified foot traffic in specific spots, putting extra pressure on the turf and increasing its vulnerability to disease and pests. By returning the greens to their original size, we’re mitigating these risks and honouring the course’s initial design.
The decision was also made to replace the turf with a newer variety of Bermuda grass that is better suited to the island’s climate. This grass strain is more resistant to disease and pests and requires less water, fertiliser, and other inputs, as it thrives naturally in the local soil and climate conditions. We believe this restoration will not only make our course more sustainable but also enhance the experience for our members and visitors.
