Green collaboration: our 1000 tree planting initiative

Carnoustie Golf Links

United Kingdom

In 2018, Carnoustie Golf Links began collaborating with Seagreen, a joint venture project between SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies. This initiative aims to develop critical green infrastructure that will not only benefit Scotland and the wider UK but will also become Scotland’s largest and the world’s deepest offshore wind farm. The project plays a crucial role in supporting Scotland’s net-zero targets and addressing climate change.

As part of this project, Carnoustie had to fell or transplant 200 trees along the route of the new cables. In agreement with Angus Council, Carnoustie Golf Links committed to re-planting one tree for every tree that was felled. Going beyond this requirement, the Links pledged to replace all felled trees and plant an additional 1000 new trees across the courses.

The newly planted trees at the Links are expected to offset approximately 1,610 tonnes of carbon over their roughly 40-year lifespan. This effort contributes significantly to the Links' ambition of becoming a Carbon Net-Zero organisation.
