Going local with tee renovation

Royal Colombo GC

Sri Lanka

Written by: Paul Jansen

Royal Colombo GC recently completed a full renovation of all its tees. The aim was to create larger areas to accommodate continuous day-to-day play, ensure that all the tees were level and angled towards the play and drain properly for easier maintenance.

The decision to use the local carpetgrass (Axonopus compressus) grown on the island was born out of the fact that this requires less input and is not as labour intensive as other competing non-native grasses. Furthermore, the work was carried out in-house using the local labour and club machinery all under the guidance of Architect Paul Jansen.
