Going digital reduced paper waste

Foshan Open

China

Reducing materials was a strong focus area for the Foshan Open, the first event in China to become a GEO Certified Tournament. By 2018 the media centre was almost entirely paperless with the event moving to digital communications and any residual printing was double-sided on recycled paper with non-toxic ink and without film or laminates. That year also saw a 50% reduction in posters, leaflets, car park and tournament passes and drawsheets on 2017 levels. By providing player, caddies and event volunteers with refillable bottles and water filling stations some 20,000 plastic water bottles were saved over five years. And everyone plays their part, including staff bringing only biodegradable lunchboxes on site.
