As part of major renovation works carried out in 2024 we carried out a full bunker audit of the golf course with our golf course architect. This audit resulted in between 35-40% of the bunkers on the course being removed. This not only makes the golf course more playable and accessible but also greatly reduced the amount of maintenance work and imported sand required.
In a similar vein, the decision was made to completely change the bunker edging. Shifting from large, smooth edges to rugged, more natural edges that mimic the surrounding environment. This decision was made to ensure the golf course sits quietly in the landscape and matches what is around it. This type of edging should also be simpler to maintain, requiring in less diesel being burned and giving the greens team more time to work on nature enhancement projects.
