Through an assertive vegetation management program, aligned with Simbithi's landscaping protocols, the club has taken decisive action to remove non-indigenous, invasive vegetation from the golf course and surrounding areas. Invasive species have the potential to drive native plants and animals to extinction, diminish biodiversity and compete with native species for scarce resources.
This year-round program ensures that only indigenous vegetation is planted. When designing and maintaining the golf course, careful consideration has been given to endangered wildlife, such as the Pickersgill Reed Frog, which inhabits Simbithi. Native plants serve multiple ecological roles: they provide nectar for pollinators, bees and butterflies, and also offer crucial shelter for various mammals.
