Enhancing our woodland by creating bug hotels and log piles

We are making steady progress with our woodland management programme. One of our key initiatives involves repurposing logs that have been felled on-site. We transform these logs into log piles, which serve a dual purpose as Bug Hotels in the damp and shaded areas of our woodland.

These log piles provide safe spaces for insects and minibeasts to raise their young and find refuge from predators. As the wood decays, it creates an ideal habitat for a variety of insects, including centipedes, woodlice, and beetles. These creatures will thrive in the decaying wood, enjoying a stable environment for years to come. Additionally, our log piles can attract birds, hedgehogs, and even frogs, all of which may benefit from the nutritious snacks that reside within.

By creating these habitats and supporting subsequent food webs, we aim to bolster the local wildlife that shares the golf course with us. We hope that these efforts will contribute to a richer and more balanced ecosystem, benefiting all the creatures that call our woodland home.
