Similar to other golf clubs in the region, Harrogate Golf Club's parkland course faces drainage challenges due to its clay base, particularly during the wet winter months. Led by Head Greenkeeper Ken Ward, the Green Team has addressed this issue by creating ponds, which not only improve drainage but also provide new habitats for various wildlife species. Currently, two ponds have been established, with plans for more in the future.
These wildlife ponds serve as natural steppingstones for wildlife migration across the course, enhancing biodiversity by offering diverse habitats and food sources. They attract various creatures such as invertebrates like pond skaters, water snails, beetles, and boatmen.
