Over the past 6 months, The Island Golf Club has moved away from inefficient lighting around the clubhouse and greenkeepers’ sheds. Fluorescent lights were in operation in common spaces and were proving inefficient and unreliable. Halogen lights were also in place around the greenkeepers’ sheds.
The Club has carried out a programme to replace all of these lights with more efficient LED lights. This form of lighting provides greater reliability with fewer call-outs required and also uses significantly less electricity without impact on brightness. The Club has reduced the general electricity costs by 50% over the last 3 years through measures like this and general awareness of waste in this area.
The Club also built a new car park in 2015 and LED floodlights are in place in this area. The next project being reviewed by the Club is the replacement of the clubhouse boiler and all modern and efficient methods will be looked at to determine the best solution for the future of the Club.
