Dune support project protects course from erosion

As we are currently experiencing severe coastal erosion problems, work was carried out at the 2nd tee on Balgownie Links to reinforce the golf course side of the dune.

A layered system using brash bales covered with sand was used. This was built up in layers and sand capped before laying marram slabs over the bare sand. This is the weakest link at the moment in our dune structure with only 4-5 meters of depth left before the tide breaks through. This additional support behind the dune has widened out the dune to 12mts deep at the weakest point.
