Each year ditches around the course are cleaned out, but a third is left for habitat, water voles, grass snakes, water boatmen and dragonflies, along with a number of other insects often found in these areas. All dead material, weed and silt removed from these ditches are composted on a heap at the north end of the golf course. The removal of silt also prevents flooding.
