Creating a piece of biodiversity heaven

Wild and overgrown was the best way to describe the area between the 12th and 13th holes at Banchory GC. Removal of scrub was important, and when we "found" drains and springs we created a natural wetland habitat and re-routed the path to encourage a woodland walk. We now have a living wall, fences and path edges (created out of wood from the course), four more mini wildflower habitats and even used turf grown from our turf farm. Beehives, bird boxes, Red Squirrel boxes and feeders and bat boxes have now been erected. With the removal of self-seeded trees, we have created a new tee at 13 with sustainable grass growth in mind. Heather transplanted into a small but hopefully fruitful sand scrape area for insects and mining bees. A great project and amazing that an area of only 600m2 can have so much biodiversity.
