Creating a heathland mosaic

Northamptonshire County Golf Club

England

Written by: Sophie Vukelic

Since the 1940's, the golf course at Northamptonshire County Golf Club has seen a marked increase in trees, resulting in the loss of heathland characteristics and far-reaching views to the wider countryside.

In recognition of the tree dominated landscape, although still highly valuable, we are now working towards a tree and woodland plan to enable structured management and conservation of the remaining heather and availability of more space for new heathland creation. This will benefit all the habitat and out-of-play areas on our site to encourage and increase the diversity of wildlife, while also making the course more visually interesting.
