A quality assessment of our golf course’s grass coverage was conducted by the consultancy firm Lumbricus. The results were documented in a comprehensive report and discussed in an evaluation meeting between Lumbricus, Vos Golf & Sport, and the Course Committee.
The overall impression is that our course is in excellent condition and ranks amongst higher-quality golf courses. Greens, foregreens, fairways, and tees were assessed based on internationally established criteria, including playability, soil conditions, and grass quality.
Due to the wet winter and spring, the thatch layer on the greens has become quite thick. This can cause issues in dry periods, as the layer dries out too quickly and limits moisture availability in the rootzone. Aeration, verticutting, and sanding can help address this.
Additionally, it was recommended to overseed the greens and fairways with high-quality grass species to combat annual meadow grass. This has already been done. Regarding the uniformity of greens, foregreens, and tees, some improvements can still be made. Small adjustments in fertilization frequency, rolling, and sanding can enhance consistency and promote a more uniform playing surface.
