Two key areas of the course were identified as part of the Clubs coastal erosion project. A dune protection system was identified for the 11th hole comprising of a double-layer system.
A homogeneous geotextile filter lining the slope of the dune, and two layers of geotextile sand bag containers installed on the face of the slope. The crest of the dune was capped by a geotextile wraparound construction technique. The reinstated dune area was subsequently planted with over 12,000 marram grasses.
The reinforcement of timber sleepers became necessary on the 2nd hole. Over 120 sleepers were considered to be unfit for purpose and were replaced. In conjunction with the timber sleeper replacement, a geotextile liner was installed across the face of the timber boards and at the bottom of the sleepser over 800 tons of rock armour was added.
